Paperly provides document scanning, image-to-PDF conversion, optical character recognition (OCR), PDF compression and editing, document signing, and related file-management tools.

Core scanning and PDF workflows are described as processing documents locally on your device, and no cloud account is required for those core tasks. 1. Information We Handle
Documents and files you select
When you scan pages, import images or PDFs, run OCR, compress or edit a PDF, add a signature, annotate, redact, merge, split, or export a document, the App processes the files and content needed to perform the feature you request. Documents may contain personal or sensitive information, so review them carefully before sharing.
Text recognized by OCR
When you use OCR, the App processes the selected image or document to recognize text. Supported OCR languages include English, Hindi, and Gujarati. You may choose to copy, save, translate, listen to, or share recognized text using available features. Depending on the implementation of a particular feature, a third-party service may process data if you explicitly invoke it; verify actual behavior before publishing this policy.
Signatures and vault data
If you create or import a signature, annotate a document, add a watermark, redact content, or place files in the private vault, the App processes the information required for that action. Signatures and documents can contain sensitive personal information. The private vault may use supported device authentication, subject to your device and app settings.
Technical information
The App or integrated service providers may process limited technical information, such as app version, operating system, device model, crash reports, diagnostic events, or usage information, where required to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App. Whether this occurs depends on the SDKs and services actually included in the released version.
2. Documents, OCR, Signatures and Private Vault
Paperly is designed to process documents locally on your device for supported offline workflows. Core scanning and PDF tasks do not require a cloud account, according to the described functionality. We do not assume that all features are offline: translation, text-to-speech, sharing, printing, or other operating-system and third-party integrations may involve external apps or services depending on how you use them.
The private vault is intended to help protect selected files using supported device authentication. It is not a guarantee against every form of unauthorized access, data loss, device compromise, or backup exposure. Availability and protection depend on the device, operating system, and implementation.
3. Camera, Files and Device Permissions
Paperly may request camera access to scan documents and access to photos, media, or files so you can import, save, or export documents. It may use operating-system sharing, printing, authentication, or audio features when you choose those functions. Permissions depend on the device and operating system. You can manage available permissions through your device settings.
The App should access only the files and device features needed for the action you choose. Check the permissions shown by your device and ensure they match the features you use.
4. How Information Is Used
Information and files are processed as needed to:
- scan documents and convert images into PDF files;
- recognize text from selected images or documents using OCR;
- compress, merge, split, reorder, extract, convert, view, share, or print files;
- add signatures, annotations, watermarks, passwords, or redactions where supported;
- organize and protect files using the private vault feature;
- respond to support requests, maintain app reliability, and troubleshoot issues; and
- meet legal obligations and protect the security of the App.
We do not use the contents of your documents for unrelated purposes unless you initiate a feature or sharing action that requires it, or processing is otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.
5. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. Paperly may make a document or extracted text available to another app, recipient, or service when you choose to share, export, translate, listen to, print, or otherwise send it using a feature on your device. Once information is sent to another app or service, that recipient’s own terms and privacy policy apply.
Information may also be disclosed if required by law, where reasonably necessary to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a merger, restructuring, or transfer of the relevant business, subject to applicable law. If hosting, analytics, crash reporting, or other service providers are integrated, they may process relevant information on our behalf according to their functions and settings.
6. Third-Party Services and Links
Some functions may rely on your operating system or other apps, such as file pickers, sharing, printing, text-to-speech, translation, or device authentication. Their handling of information is governed by their respective providers. Review the relevant privacy policies before using external services. Identify any third-party SDKs actually integrated into Paperly where required by applicable store policies.
7. Advertising, Analytics and Diagnostics
This section must reflect the actual version of Paperly. If the App contains advertising, analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs, those providers may collect information such as advertising identifiers, app interactions, device information, or diagnostic data as configured. If no such SDKs are included, remove any corresponding data collection from the app’s store disclosures. Verify the current SDK list and providers’ policies before publishing.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Documents and files processed locally are generally retained on your device until you delete them, clear the App’s data, or uninstall the App, subject to operating-system behavior and any backups or copies you create. Exported files and files shared with other apps may remain in those locations and must be managed separately.
Any technical, diagnostic, or support information processed by the App or its providers may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, subject to applicable law and the provider’s retention practices. The exact retention period depends on the features and services actually used.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures intended to protect information processed through Paperly. Local processing can reduce the need to send document contents to a server, but no device, storage method, or transmission method is completely secure. Use device security features, keep your operating system updated, and take care when exporting or sharing documents. Protect passwords and signatures and share files only with intended recipients.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. These rights are subject to applicable legal limits.
